Trashed gearbox on chrylsler 20hp after running aground - advice please.
Simon,
Drive pin is also known as a shear pin I think - will be located along the
prop shaft, not on the front face of the prop - that's just a split pin to
keep the prop nut in place.
Not up to speed on inboards so I cannot tell you exactly where it is...
would be worth locating a manual or finding someone "in the know".
Newer & larger outboards often have a rubber slip ring.
Hope you get it sorted - if it is the shear pin, it will not cost a lot! How
about the propeller - damaged?

Oh dear.
I stopped the engine and dropped anchor, and lifted the prop out of the
water, only to find that there was no longer drive getting from the
engine
to the prop.
I don't know your particular engine but whenever I've done this or
heard of someone else doing it, it has always been the drive pin.
This, as I recall, is designed to fail before any really expensive
bits are damaged.
Hope this is what's happened in your case.

And this was my 'facility'. I always carried a box of drive pins. In my
case, soft brass, about 25mm long by about 4 mm diameter. Pop one in as
you push the broken one out. Can be done from within the boat and takes
5 minutes.
Finger crossed that this is your problem.
Mike
