No the button was OK, and I managed to pull it out, but it didn't solve the
problem. Over the weekend I stripped down the control and WD40'd it all,
plus grease , but it still seemed stuck. Then I fiddled about (technical
term !) with some cables and levers on the to pleft of the engine itself. I
pushed and pulled them, having taken out a split pin to allow them to move
easily. Lo and behold, on next startup it was all ok. Don't know what cured
it, but something obviously did. I just hope it stays ok for the holidays !
Sounds like either the cable was being forced to turn too tight or it was
pinched by something. It couldn't possibly be the cable itself as you
regularly lubricate it don't you?
Cheerio,
