Properly stated, a majority of the blacks in prisons didn't have the
resources to hire a competent criminal attorney and ended up with a
"deal" made between the prosecutor and underpaid and understaffed public
defenders' offices. Had they been able to hire competent counsel, many
likely would have ended up with the same sort of outcome as whites with
private lawyers, which, at the minimum, would have meant shorter sentences.

There also have been recent statistical analyses showing that black
defendants and white defendants who are convicted of similar crimes draw
different sentences. Guess which color skin gets the longer terms.

And no, I am not going to provide cites. If you are interested, the info
is easy enough to find. It's not worth the effort to try to enlighten
the intellectually lazy here.
