Humm... I don't seem to remember Maryland ever electing a female
governor or a person of any ethnic minority for that office.
They were all white guys and more than a few were corrupt.
You don't have to be a woman politician to not be anti-woman, or a black
politician to not be anti-black. Further, I don't expect all the players
in our political system to be pure as the driven snow in corruption.
Maryland is not particularly backwards, racist, anti-government,
anti-woman, or anti voters' rights.
I am not convinced the people of South Carolina are any more racist
than the people in Southern Md, particularly the ones who were part of
the white flight from DC. The only kkk rally I ever saw was in
Southern PG county.
The most racist people I have ever seen as a group, are northern, big
city, cops.
I live in Southern Maryland, and have for a decade. A good number of the
most illustrious people here are the descendents of 18th and 19th
Century blacks, mostly farmers, and some of them are still farmers.
There are any number of roads here named after black families. There are
black kids on our street, and black kids in the schools, and black kids
working in the stores after school. Two of my doctors are local blacks.
I think about 15% of the local population is black and about 4% is Latino.
I'm not claiming there is no racism here. I am sure we have some white
racist pigs amongst us. They're everywhere. But at least the racism here
isn't institutional and on-going, as it is in South Carolina. No one in
Calvert County would dare to **** around with easy voter registration
and short-line voting.
I haven't had much to do with "northern, big city, cops."
There's still black farmers in South Carolina, and that's a pretty
stupid point to make! There are a number of roads in South Carolina
named after black families, There are black kids on a lot of streets in
South Carolina, and in the schools. And black kids working in the stores
after school. So what IS your point?
I've already explained the point several times. It has to do with South
Carolina (and Texas, recalling the first post I made in the thread)
being institutionally backwards, racist, anti-government, anti-woman,
anti voters' rights.
The comment about farmers was in response to Greg's post.
Hey, I know it is difficult for some here to follow along. It's not my
problem, nor do I much care one way or the other.
Right.......
