We'd initially planned to stop at Charleston on the way back and catch the fireworks. But, that must

It's popular all the time. Great food, lots of history, just a very cool city. It's only 1.5 hours for us, we go down several times a year. The Market Pavilion Hotel is very nice, and if you just have to eat something other than seafood Grill 225 in the lobby is a killer steak place.

I like it because it's a small city, easy to get around, etc. I
especially like the City Market. Also, go over the the bridge and eat at
The Wreck, if you can find it as there is no sign.
