.357 gives you a performance advantage over the .45 and 9mm.
10mm/.40 closed that gap.

Shot a "10" one afternoon at the range. Just bloody awful. Don't like
.40 S&W much, either. Do like the .367 mag in an S&W 27-2.

I know very little about comparisons of different kinds of ammo and even
less about how to judge their "performance".
Terms like "stopping power" really don't mean much, IMO, because there
are so many other factors involved.

However, from basic physics, energy equals mass times velocity
squared. Some smart German guy figured that out. So, the velocity of
a round has much more to do with the resultant imparted energy than the
mass of the slug, assuming they are somewhat similar. The table in the
provided link indicates that a typical .357 round has a much higher
muzzle velocity than a typical 45 round. So, if the German guy is
right, the energy on the target is higher with the 357.




Oh, I am aware of the different properties of some different rounds, but
in shooting paper targets at a typical range distance, it doesn't matter
much to me. Perhaps the original poster is talking about the ability to
pierce and destroy flesh?

Why shoot anything bigger than a .22, if your goal is only to put targets in paper?

Why sell the cheap 9mm and buy a .45? Are you thinking of destroying flesh, or just putting pencil
sized holes in paper?
