probably have a net savings if we bought the alcohol from foreign sources.
Getting from Corn is wasteful and stupid. Sugar Cane supplies 9x the
alcohol per acre and lot easier to get the sugar out to start with. But old
sugar subsidy prevents that, even though we do not really grow much sugar
cane in the USA these days.
Sugar has a worse ecological impact than the oil it is supposed to
replace. You are fixing to see a drop in sugar production in Florida
as the Everglades restoration continues.
There are also environmental concerns in Louisiana.
Brazil is mortgaging it's future with this ethanol debacle and the
impact may affect us all. When you are draining wetlands and burning
the rain forest to make fuel you have embarked on a bad path..
It's strange how the ecological minded liberals have no problem with that philosophy. Nor do the
'help the poor' liberals have any problem with what ethanol manufacturing is doing to the price of
food.
