Put 'Huntley Meadows Park, Alexandria, VA' into Mapquest. Look just north - that's the golf course.
The park has all kinds of trees and water. But, the folks are not allowed to trap the beaver.
Stupid.

I guess my question would be... were the beavers in the area before the golf course was built??

I lived right across the river from there for 38 years and I never
heard about beavers anywhere near DC.
The first beaver I ever saw was in upstate New York.

I recall a couple of beaver dams pointed out by scout leaders during
camping events when I was a cub scout in New Haven.
