Cast lead is fine as long is you don't try to load it too hot. I shot
thousands of rounds of wad cutter through my .38 OM but they were
148gr with 2.8-3 gr of Bullseye behind it. I had no problem at all. If
you bumped that up to 3.5gr of Bullseye the lead fouling really
started building up.
OR. After you do the wad cutters, you pump a couple or three rounds
of FMJ through it. Then cleaning is so much easier.
I am talking about all the lead and powder residue in the action.
