BTW, what's the racing queen doing in the off-season now that she's out
of high school and not in college?
Slobber in the gym, eat good, tweak, tweak, tweak the bike, took on two
new sponsors, and she is working with me as the lesion between the
Professional Athletes we represent (5 pro teams, along with several top
ranked amateurs) on a project that is quickly gaining ground and
sponsors... stay tuned...
Slobber in the gym? Is that a modern age exercise regimen?
Speaking of "competitive", and you are always asking about our
competitiveness, how "competitive" were you in high school, a "sport"
you suggested your parents drilled you in all of your life, and you
certainly put a lot more time and effort into than my girl ever did in
motocross... Among her peers last year in a National Amateur event, she
took 8th place... how did you stack up against the competition in High
School, I suppose you must have been Valedictorian or close with all the
time and resources your parents put into you... or did they fail
miserably.. So, how successful were your parents in the path they chose
for you? Just doesn't make sense for someone like yourself who must have
been at the top of your game, to go to school in bum**** Kansas...
What's up with that?
In high school, I was on the swimming team for three years (butterfly
and breaststroke) and was one of the editors of the school's literary
magazine, and, of course, a contributor, and, with a friend, founded and
ran a classics film club in New Haven that had well-attended biweekly
screenings at a local "coffee house" that was nothing like Starbucks.
I also played on Little League, Babe Ruth League and Industrial League
baseball teams in the spring and summer, and the latter league was
semi-pro. I played third base and second base and always had a high
batting average. I wasn't valedictorian, but I was a National Merit
Scholarship finalist.
I also dated some absolutely terrific gals while I was in high school,
and I still have several dozen really close friends, male and female,
from those days, some of whom are still in the general New Haven area.
We have a "reunion" at Milford or Branford at least once a year. Looks
like it will be Milford this year, though, since I am not local, I am
not on the planning committee, so I don't know for sure. Last year, we
actually had a bus tour of New Haven's famous pizza joints, and I have
the tee-shirt to show for it.
Oh, my mother taught me to read when I was three years old. In
kindergarten, I was getting into a bit of trouble, nothing serious,
because I was bored. I was "tested" in the first grade and found to be
reading at the 12th grade level, and I knew my multiplication tables
through the twelves. I had an "adult" library card in the third grade,
though the local librarian didn't allow me to check out "sexy" books,
but I wasn't reading the Hardy Boys series.
My parents did not choose a path for me, other than to stress the
importance of reading, writing, and the ability to think. My mom was a
voracious reader, and active in local Republican party politics. She
never graduated from college. My dad, however, was a college graduate,
and a master of many and diverse skills, but was apolitical.
As always, thanks for your interest.
It's to bad that Scotty doesn't value education. Reminds me of college
football players that don't worry about an education because they think
football will take them through life. Sometimes it doesn't.
