Always looking for another side of opinion, I looked to the reply

western countries. I wonder why that is.

They don't pic ALL national statistics, though. And who determines
what countries are 'civilized' and which ones aren't?



In a chart showing "homicide rates," what other national statistics
would you include? I'd guess on that list of countries, we'd also be
"the leader" in crimes of violence in most categories. My guess is that
if the chart showed "homicide by firearm rates," we'd be way, way higher.

What's important, I think, is to find out *why* we have so much violence
against people in this country and what we can do about it.

We are waiting for the big story to come out of Calvert County where the
headline reads "Crazed Gun Nut Shoots Girl Scouts Just For Knocking On
His Front Door"

The countries on the list seem representative of modern, western-style
democracies. Which modern, western-style countries with homicide rates
higher than the United States do you think are missing from the list?
