Most interesting, the chart shows the homicide rate in this country at
least three to four times the rate of most other so-called civilized
western countries. I wonder why that is.
They don't pic ALL national statistics, though. And who determines
what countries are 'civilized' and which ones aren't?
In a chart showing "homicide rates," what other national statistics
would you include? I'd guess on that list of countries, we'd also be
"the leader" in crimes of violence in most categories. My guess is that
if the chart showed "homicide by firearm rates," we'd be way, way higher.
What's important, I think, is to find out *why* we have so much violence
against people in this country and what we can do about it.
The countries on the list seem representative of modern, western-style
democracies. Which modern, western-style countries with homicide rates
higher than the United States do you think are missing from the list?
