AFTER COMMISION OF A CRIME, but since the very first law it has been
abundantly clear that it didn't PREVENT any sort of behavior.

Prohibition prevented the ownership of alcoholic beverages, much the
same as people now seem bent on "preventing" ownership of certain
poorly defined guns. How did that work out? Haven't we learned
ANYTHING from history?

And, yes, constantly trying to judicially stick your finger in the
dike is a fools errand. Fewer laws would not be a bad thing.
