As much as I hope nobody on my team hears me say this... From my point
of view, Yamaha race engines are more durable than Honda, Kawasaki, KTM
and even our beloved Suzuki, IN MY OPINION in the last few years. Some
other manufacturers such as Gas Gas, a Spanish motorcycle, are now using
Yamaha engines...
Back in the '70s, if you wanted to have fun you rode a Yamaha dirt bike. If you wanted a better handling, faster bike and didn't mind working on it some (and had the cash), you rode a KTM/Penton. One of the best handling enduro bikes I ever rode was a Maco 250. A bit heavy, but a great bike. The guy also had a Maco 400. It was a beast.
Yamaha, beast on power, great endurance and tolerance good for the long
haul. Tall.
Honda, great bike very fast (until it grenades) and not the best
handling but great fuel injection. New air suspension, so far, so good.
Suzuki, by far the best handling out of the top five, a bit more hp
stock but a different ride with a very strong bottom end. This is
Jessi's favorite. This is the bike she rides on the tight tracks, she
can throw that thing around like a bicycle..
Kawasaki very fast, ride 'em high in the rpm range, but they don't
handle as well and they break. Jessi's Kawi has almost 20% more hp than
a stock engine, she calls that her "Unadilla" bike. Unadilla calls for a
lot of HP.
KTM... Fast out of the factory, they just came up to speed on suspension
for MX recently but all in all KTM=Kan't Take Motocross... all I gotta'
say...
