Well, that certainly explains your vast knowledge of "things computer."
It was the typical understanding everyone had of an EAM room. There
were lots of big gray boxes but the sorter was the most interesting to
look at because you could really see something happening. (in spite of
that being the simplest machine in the room)
This is why that is always the images you see on old movies.
By a like token, if you look at a "computer room" images they always
show tape drives. (again, one of the simplest boxes in the room)
The first computer I ever saw "up close and personal" was in the offices
of an NGO. I knew what it was, but I had no idea what its purpose was.
It was behind glass walls on a raised floor, and it was surrounded by
acolytes, several of whom were carrying holy clipboards.
