Think Passport and/or TWIC cards.
We are WAY behind Europe in regards to personal finance like debit
cards, etc.
In what respect? What is the advantage to debit cards?
We have debit cards because we don't need or want credit. Credit cards
are one of the reasons the American economy is in the shape it is in,
now.
I will note, that a LOT of the unmanageable credit run up on credit
cards is due to the uncontrolled expense of health care.

Pay it off every month, and it won't be such a burden to your economy. In fact, it can be a boon
because of the paybacks that come with its use.
