Hi Fred,

you don't mention how shallow. Most depth finders LCG type(Liquid
Crystal Graph) will work in water two or 3 feet deep but, not in
Automatic mode. Vexilar makes a real nice flasher unit that shows fish
.. I have both a Lowrance LCG and a flasher. the flasher is color so
you do not have read numbers. I would look for one that is waterproof too.
