Why would you want to take the chance of paying too much attention to

It is ludicrous to assume that a teenaged football star could not
outrun an old fat guy if he was trying to get away.

Seems like the gun malfunctioned and went off on it's own, at just the
right time. There was no human DNA on it. Case closed.
