I learned a new word today.
The word is...tombolo.
It is a noun. A tombolo is a sandbar that pops up at low tide and
connects the mainland to an island.
Here's an article and some photos:

A friend in Milford, Connecticut, sent me an email this morning with a
photo of his local "tombolo," a sandbar that at low tide
appears between Milford and Charles Island. He referred to the sandbar
as a tombolo, and since I was not familiar with the word, I looked it up.
Tombolo it is.
Boating related, of course. I ran into that particular tombolo a couple
of times when I was a lad and an avid boater and sailor on Long Island
Sound.
