Newser) – A criminal complaint is painting a clearer picture of the gunman accused of attacking the Family Research Council: Before shooting a security guard, Floyd Corkins informed him, "I don't like your politics." The exchange was caught on surveillance video, authorities say. Not only did Corkins have a Chick-Fil-A bag, he was carrying 15 sandwiches from the fast-food chain, whose anti-gay marriage stance the FRC recently backed.
Corkins, of Virginia, will be charged with assault with intent to kill—which carries a maximum 30-year sentence—and carrying weapons across state lines, which comes with a maximum 10-year sentence, CNN reports. He reportedly bought his handgun legally within the past week. The complaint notes that according to his parents, Corkins "has strong opinions with respect to those he believes do not treat homosexuals in a fair manner." Mitt Romney has condemned the attack: "There is no place for such violence in our society," the candidate says.
Wow. Crazy people on BOTH sides of the aisle.
With apologies to Bob Dylan, truly, it appears that he had GAWD on his
side....
No, this incident destroys the myth that potential mass murderers are
strictly reserved to be in the 'rightie-christian- fundie' club.
"Corkins, who graduated from George Mason University in Virginia with
a master’s degree in education and human development in 2006, had
recently been volunteering at The D.C. Center for the LGBT Community,
a community center for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people
in Washington."

It's too bad the hate group that calls itself the Family Research
Council was attacked that way. It would have been better to round up a
small crowd, proceed to the headquarters, and take a collective dump in
the FRC's reception lobby.
Is that what you'd do?
I sure as hell would not shoot up the place. The Family Research Council
is a hate group, just like the Ku Klux Klan, the neo-Nazis, et cetera.
It *deserves* to have a rave group take a dump in its reception lobby,
and probably on a daily basis. There's no justification for shooting the
FRC morons.

but you would take a dump on their floor. I would compare them to the
KKK or Neo-Nazi's. . They don't hang and lynch anyone, and I'm always
amazed, If you're opposed to gay marriage, then you are a 'hater'
and/ or your church or organization is automatically a 'hate group'
give a break....
It's possible to be against gay marriage in a reasonable way. The FRC is
not reasonable in its statements, policies and actions. The Southern
Poverty Law Center lists the FRC as a hate group, and noted yesterday that:
"The SPLC has listed the FRC as a hate group since 2010 because it has
knowingly spread false and denigrating propaganda about LGBT people —
not, as some claim, because it opposes same-sex marriage. The FRC and
its allies on the religious right are saying, in effect, that offering
legitimate and fact-based criticism in a democratic society is
tantamount to suggesting that the objects of criticism should be the
targets of criminal violence.
"As the SPLC made clear at the time and in hundreds of subsequent
statements and press interviews, we criticize the FRC for claiming, in
Perkins’ words, that pedophilia is “a homosexual problem” — an utter
falsehood, as every relevant scientific authority has stated. An FRC
official has said he wanted to “export homosexuals from the United
States.” The same official advocated the criminalizing of homosexuality."
FRC=Hate Group
