Does anyone believe the media feeds this phenomena by giving the

Now why would any sane person kill a bunch of people just to get "air
time" when they'll spend the rest of their lives in prison or be legally
killed?

I think a large number of these people expect to be killed "in combat"
and in some twisted sense martyred

That could be the case for some, I suppose.
