Any of you guys use this or similar system, know anybody who does
or
have any input as to their usefulness? TIA.
Her use would probably hiking, biking, skiing etc. in or around the
Pac
North West...
I bought a pair and used them a couple of times. They work OK. PTT
sucks. HD sucks. Short range sucks. If CB radio works for you, you'll
probably like FRS. They are cheap enough. Buy a pair and if you decide
you don't like em, give them to the kids to play with.
Yeah, not for me... We use our cell phones and I voice text so I still
don't have to type anything in... Almost as fast, better range
At the
same time, my friend might not be able to count on cell coverage, they
are into outback type activities like I said, out in the PNW... Lot's of
high desert riding south, and backpack skiing and such...
They are walkie-talkies and are not good for much more than line of site
communications. You can't depend upon your cell-phone to work when out
in the wilderness.
If you are looking for something to help ensure that you can get help
you need a sat-phone. Just rent one for the times you are out in the
bush so to speak. My uncle rented them when he took his BS troops out in
the PNW. The gave status checks at specific times and had it available
if needed in an emergency.
