A post on another ng concening rolling a small boat up the beach on
fenders got me thinking, why not have an inflatable "dock" that would
lift a boat above the water to prevent fouling or keep it from being
on bottom in large tidal ranges. Anchor this thing to the bottom with
those screw in type anchors, inflate and Voila, your boat is well
above water level. Even fairly large craft could be elevated this
way

What's described is an Air-Dock. There's some recent discussion of the
product over in rec.sport.waterski you might care to pursue if it's of
interest to you. And, yes, it's usable for fairly large boats. Sailboats
are not appropriate for this use, however, being suited to flatter-contoured
bottoms. Straight drive, I/O or outboards do fine, but real keels are a bit
much for them. A *really* shoal draft full keel might be ok.

Browse on over to the waterski side and review the discussion and then get
back to me if I can be of assistance...

"And then again, when you sit at the helm of your little ship on a
clear night, and gaze at the countless stars overhead, and realize
that you are quite alone on a great, wide sea, it is apt to occur to
you that in the general scheme of things you are merely an
insignificant speck on the surface of the ocean; and are not nearly
so important or as self-sufficient as you thought you were. Which is
an exceedingly wholesome thought, and one that may effect a
permanent change in your deportment that will be greatly appreciated
by your friends." - James S. Pitkin
