I totally understand the sentiment but doing that in the presence of
your friend/her boyfriend seems out of place, even if it happened in
the era of free love.
Telling a woman she's beautiful is one of the best pickup lines there
are!!! It's also a good way to soften the wife.
My sister was out on a blind date when she met her future husband. He
walked right up to her and got her number, while the blind date was in
the bathroom, 27 years later and 3 sons, and they are still married.
You can't let political correctness get in the way of what you want.
