Those voyages led to centuries of European exploration and exploitation
and slaughter and enslaving of indigenous populations, and, according to

You're correct - what is now the United States was far better off when
tribes were slaughtering each other.

Columbus never set foot on what would be now the 48 contiguous states; his
comments to the same, if true, would have been based on hearsay or rumor.
