Interesting lexicography. A "jack" is a officially small flag
indicating a vessel's nationality as in Union Jack and the fixture it is
displayed on known as a jack staff. It was corrupted to mean any small
flag such as a courtesy or signal flag. The Q for quarantine being
yellow became known as the "yellow jack". Because if its connotation to
a disease, Yellow Jack is also another name for yellow fever.

Never heard it called a yellowjack before, just a Q Flag or
Quaranteen Flag.
