Default Leyland Yachtsman 37 hp - Anyone know anything about these?

Hi Russ

I have a BMC Captain diesel that was also released with a number of brand
names including Thornycroft, Leyland and (I think) Pettars. I am not sure
if this is the same as the Leyland Yachtsman.
My engine was built in 1964, and is 1.5 litres, four cylinder diesel based
on the BMC series-B petrol engine block. The BMC Captain is still being
made and the magazine "Practical Boat Owner" had an article a couple of
years ago where they said it was still the largest selling marine diesel
in England where its very popular in canal craft.

For some parts (eg fresh water pump) MG car parts fit. For others I have
got parts quite quickly and inexpensively from England. Try searching
under BMC and Thornycroft marine diesel, as well as Leyland.

Sorry, but I have just upgraded computers and have yet to transfer all of
hard disk so I cannot give you a precise address. If you have no luck,
come back & I'll look up the old references.

Hope this helps

Graeme

Since its a 1978 engine, maybe its time to trhow it out and repower.

Has anyone on the list replaced one of these engines? If so what
fits? It's for a 1978 Valiant Esprit 37'.
