Looks like the Washington monument got some pretty good cracks in it's
walls on this one....

I would not doubt the cracks were already there and the quake just
shook
them loose.

But not sure I would want to be too close to it when she goes.

Some better picks and details.

Maybe if the right wing would be willing to maintain our
infrastructure, including funding national parks and monuments, this
wouldn't have happened.

The monument was restored in 1996 Clinton must have cut corners on the
restoration.

I remember it was closed right after 9/11 for renovations as we went to
DC Smithsonians not a month after 9/11. Figured we would miss the crowds
and were we right.

People thought we were nuts, bunch of scared monkeys. When we got there,
2 uniforms on one corner and 2 suits on the other, with very few people
in sight, no line-ups at all. Saw more of DC in 4 days than one would
see in 2 weeks with normal crowds. Didn't see anyone even litter it was
so well organized and orderly. Got cheap rates too. Never once had to
wait in line or for a second bus.

The only way to see DC. Priceless.

But makes me wonder, can't they fix it for more than 10 years at a go?

They didn't do a seismic retrofit, moron.
