Speaking of the Post Office...
In article ,
says...
You do realize that UPS handles more packages per year than the post
office, and is profitable, don't you?
The USPS is profitable.
The Republican Congress wrote a law in 2006 requiring the PO to pre-fund
retirement programs like no other gov agency or private business.
The gov basically owes the USPS about $75 billion in overpayments, and
the USPS is still overpaying +$5 billion a year, only making it look
like it isn't profitable.
And like Abner said, the USPS is constitutionally mandated.
BTW, UPS is a Teamster operation, and the USPS is also unionized.
But you can always use FedEx or hire a bicycle courier if you're anti-
union.
