It depends how you want to use it. My first reaction is that it's a
bit large and heavy for a travel computer but if you're not going to
be carrying it around through airports and on planes that doesn't
matter so much. It certainly has a lot of memory and power, coupled
with a large screen.

If you want a small lightweight laptop you'd probably be happier with
on of the Dell Inspirons. I have one that I purchased several years
ago for about $500 that is fully loaded with features like a built in
GPS, television receiver and long life battery (about 5 hours). My
only gripe with it is the relatively small screen size of about 10
inches but that's what makes it small and light.

My boat laptops are Panasonic CF-29 Toughbooks that I purchased
off-lease for around $350 each. They are practically armor plated but
are definitely on the heavy side for a travel computer. There are
some really funny Youtube videos about Toughbook laptops if you do a
search. My favorite is the one where a guy complains that the screen
is dirty so he takes it over to the sink and starts washing it under
running water while he is still browsing the web. They are definitely
good boat computers.

I don't worry about weight. The more it weighs, the more calories I'll burn carrying it. That
Panasonic Toughbook costs too damn much.

I like the big screen, but I'm not happy about the battery life. I guess it takes a lot to power
that screen. Usually I'll have a 120v socket nearby. Don't need it for the boat. Know my way around
my 'fishin' holes' pretty well, and the GPS helps. I may even dig out a chart every now and then!

I like Toshiba laptops.
