You might want to repost your question on "rec.boats.building".

There are still a few knowledgable guys who check in there once in a
while.

I was thinking that you might be able to adapt a small dock box but
prices have gone through the roof for them. Best bet is probably to
build something out of plywood if you or a buddy have cabinet making
skills.
