Agreed. The City of Chicago saw it first as water to flush their sewage
down the Mississippi.
I don't know if Chicago treats any of its sewage yet. They were
resisting last I read about it, however long ago that was.
As far as hurting the economy, by closing it: that BS. It would hurt two
r three shipping companies. They could care less about the Great Lakes
or anything else.
It is better for one or two shipping companies, to be inconvenienced or
to change, than, the entire Great Lakes, and streams to destroyed.
Many more millions depend, on the Great Lakes ecology, for incomes and
other reasons than the hand full of shipping companies etc. Not just the
US but Canada.
Why should Americans sacrifice the Great Lakes, FOREVER, to satisfy a
few shipping companies??
If the People that ran these Companies were concerned about America, the
millions that ultimately depend on the Great Lakes , for the economy
they would not pursue their to hell with the Great Lakes attitude.
What's not shocking these days that Politicians are acting or reacting
to the wishes of these few companies as opposed to the desires of
Americans and our ecology and Country's economy.

Given the floods, the mess the river ways are in is just proof we should
let nature do the work as in the end, nature wins.
