Nile sailing
Hi Hoges,
I was a passenger on a motor yacht from Cairo to just north of Aswan,
about ten years ago. The political scene has changed a lot, since then.
It was a great scenic trip, and yes you do see lots of arab sailboats on
the way. I imagine the winds would be tricky in the narrow confines of
the Nile, but certainly doable. However, in light of the political situation in
Egypt, I would be afraid to risk my life on such a venture.
There are too many crazies over there who would like to target Americans,
and a lone yacht would be a tempting target for them. I think it is even
risky to take a guided tour down the Nile, although there have not been any
attacks on tourists lately. Why tempt fate?

Does anyone know if it is possible to sail up the Nile (and, of course, back
down again)
I watched a travel show tonight that had heaps of Egyptian sailboats
(dhows?) and wondered if it was possible to do it in a private
"non-Egyptian" capacity.
Just curious as there are lots of other destinations in mind and I hadn't
given that one any thought at all.
