Default Seattle Benefit for Historic Schooner

From my e-mail.

(Good opportunity to spend a night hanging 'round the tavern "for an important
cause")

Dear friends,
As some of you know, the historic three masted schooner WAWONA's
berth at the south end of Lake Union is in jeopardy. She isn't pretty
enough for the city, and for their plans to turn South Lake Union into a
biotech yuppie hive. Pardon the language, but I'm incensed!
The maritime music community is reacting by starting a campaign to
save the ship's rightful place on Lake Union (she has been associated
with the lake singce 1914) and to raise community awareness to pressure
the city to value this important cultural and educational treasure.
On Friday, April 16, from 8:30-midnight, two of the premier maritime
music groups in this region, PINT & DALE and VICTORY @ SEA, will perform
a benefit concert at the Highliner Pub, in Fisherman's Terminal. There
is no admission charge, but donations toward preserving the WAWONA and
her place on Lake Union will be solicited. We will also be seeking
people to help with our campaign in any way they can, from writing
letters and making phone calls to working on the ship herself. Some
related items and services will be auctioned off, also.
The Highliner has a good beer selection and good pub food.
Fisherman's Terminal is just west of the south side of the Ballard
Bridge. This will be a lovely evening of good music and community
building. I hope you will join us.
Thank you for reading this and for caring about our heritage, Dan
Roberts
