Especially when you consider the original mistake was forgetting that
just because a plug comes new in a box, it's good.. Yep, could have
avoided this if I had taken that into consideration.. A very costly
mistake indeed...

This is on topic so I split it out

I trust a spark plug that has been running 1000 hours more than a new
one, until I see it run.

The only "testing" the manufacturers do these days is that it fits in
the box.
New defective parts are fairly rare and that just makes it harder when
you are trying to fix something. In trouble shooting it is a good idea
to back out new parts that didn't fix anything before you replace
something else.

Another lesson re-learned. I have the engine out and am about to take
off the head. One of the officials from the league we race is going to
have me over to split the cases in his shop. He says the only thing is
we may have to make a splitter/puller for the crankcase. It's just a
straight slotted bar with three tapped holes, just add bolts...

It sounds pretty straight forward, and I have been going through the
manual and the explosions, and I think I got it. I forgot to mention
it's a two stroke so it's not as bad as it could have been... Of course
I haven't seen the inside of the engine yet either

Soooooo glad it wasn't the four stroke!

The best of luck to you!
