Radio interference survey
"Richard Kollmann"
| Radio interference caused by refrigerators containing the Danfoss BD
| brush-less compressors is not only bothersome on boats with these
| refrigerators but they also affect other boats radios in the same
| anchorage. Refrigeration system manufacturers over the last fifteen
| years have asked Danfoss for a solution. The feedback relayed back to
| the consumer is, next generation of electrical module will include
| noise suppression built in. After several model changes the noise
| problem is still being reported. From the small number of complaints I
| see it makes me believe that all boats are not experiencing the noise,
| and one of the many recommended fixes might have worked.
Hi Richard,
I don't think your conclusion of
"Small Number Complaints
Not Experiencing Noise
so some ?? Fix has worked"
is correct at all.
My experience of the problem in the last 5 years of being active on HF on my
own boat
is that MOST marine HF cruising-type users are not sufficiently technically
aware
to be able to identify one RF noise source from another.
So the small number of complaints come from those who can recognise the
problem...
And there are many HF noise sources on boats, as you would well be aware.
Danfoss Fridge compressor controllers are among the worst noise sources
however,
so whatever steps you can manage to improve the sitiuation will be a great
benefit to all.
The inertia of Danfoss is immense.
Their denials of blame are almost in the same league as the tobacco
industry.
Good Luck...
Irving
