Kidney dialysis in the bahamas
In article 81034041-5093-42de-860f-
,
says...
To get back from marsh harbor, we had to get up at 4:45 am and drive
all the way to the north end of Abaco to take the small ferry boat
from Crownhaven to Macleans town on Grand Bahama. This ferry ride
took 45 minutes and cost $50. From Macleans town to Freeport, we took
the bus costing $10 to Freeport. The bus dropped of 3 elderly guys at
a dialysis clinic. The bus driver told me they came 3X a week for
this. WHOA, that is a lot of time travelling for dialysis.
Home dialysis machines do exist but require a trained nephrologist to
monitor them. Would it make sense for a business to hire a
nephrologist to do this. The nephrologist could carry three machines
with him and this would be cheaper than sending all the patients to
the center in Freeport.
A woman I work with is on dialysis. She has to coordinate her vacations
with the availability of a bed at a dialysis clinic. Last summer she wet
to the Outer Banks for a week. And, on three days she had to drive 160
miles round trip to receive her dialysis.
