I was in Havre Boucher last Fall and based on my experience, you could
probably make arrangements with just about anybody that has the space
with no problem.
In fact, I enjoyed the people and environment, not only of Havre Boucher
but Cape Breton generally, so much so that, I bought a place on Isle
Madame and look forward to moving up permanently next year.
C'est si bon,
Courtney
Ah Harve Boucher.
Back on July 01 1967 (Canada's centennial) a group of us jumped into a
co-workers Austin Westminster at 11pm after our part time work was finished
and headed off to Cape Breton. At that time the new Trans Canada highway was
still under construction so we had to cover a lot of mileage on old twisty 2
lane blacktop.
We got as far as Harve Boucher sometime after 2am , when the driver lost
control and smashed into a one lane bridge.
I found him outside under the car bleeding from the head. My injury was
strained muscles on my lower right side. I had to walk back to a farmhouse
to call for help.
My sister had a broken collarbone, and my mother had a permanent problem
with her arm/shoulder.
Only one person of the five escaped without some injury.
We ended up in the Antigonish hospital and my uncle had to drive up from St.
Peter's to get us......and eventually drive us back to Halifax.
That beautiful English car with leather interior had no collision insurance
and was a write-off. The junkyard offered Ronnie
$ 25.00 for it.
Yup...sure do remember Harve Boucher!
Hard to believe that's about 37 years ago.
