Up on Thetis Island, there's a wonderful coffee shop not far from the harbor.
They have an old time coffee roasting machine named "Gertrude."
Several times a year they roast peanuts in Gertrude to clean the works. There's
apparently a standing list of people waiting a turn to buy the coffee flavored
roasted peanuts.
Ah, fresh-roasted peanuts so hot you can't hold them in your hand.
There's been a family who grow their own peanuts and roast them in an
ancient peanut roaster that has been converted to bottled gas in the
Ladson, SC, fleamarket for 20 years. SC is famous for boiled peanuts.
They sell them on every 5th intersection from vats of propane-boiled
water. But, I'm a roast kinda guy, myself.
Maybe I'll spend Saturday morning at the fleamarket, this week,
walking around with a pound of hot peanuts and looking at the same
rusty junk that has been on those tables since 1966....(c;
