Fishing reels, of course. Why, what was on your dirty mind? :)
Guy at the club, a retired engineer, keeps busy in the winter taking
apart, cleaning, repairing and lubing fishing reels. I'm bringing mine
over to him this week. I don't have any big reels, but they are all
decent and I've had most of them for 10 years or more. I pay $20 a reel,
plus the cost of any significant parts. The guy has lots of parts.
Anyone else do this?
I think the annual dusting and cleaning helps keep my reels trouble-free
during the fishing season. Obviously, for $20 a reel, the guy isn't
interested in making money, but just keeping busy.
Clean reels or get reels cleaned?
Most of the decent tackle shops around the Bay have a reel cleaning service.
Most of us who fish have our reels cleaned, although maybe not annually.
My guess is that most bait'n'tackle shops are drop-off points for some
service or individual who picks up reels (and rods) needing attention.
That's fine. I use the guy I do because he's a club member, he's been
doing it for some time, and he apparently does a good job. He likes to
keep busy over the winter.
I don't know if the guy who does mine is a club member. He's been doing it for
some time, does a great job, and likes to keep busy over the winter. Don't we
all?
