Conducting your own drills is requried for a profiecient mariner. but
when was the last time you attened a course designed for real sailor
and not some POS thing put on by west marine by an equipment rep with
the primary intention of selling gear?
HOw many of you have a Fire Blanket in your galley along with an
extinguisher apropreatly sized plus TWO backup? Yo do realsize the
USCG safey equipment requirments are woofully lacking.

I don't have a proper fire blanket, per se, but whenever we fire up
the Princess stove (flaming drama queen of the galley), there is a
damp towel at hand - just to be ready. I only had to demonstrate
the flare up problem once for D to "get it. She has been great about
fire safety and preparation ever since.
A small ABC hung in the galley, another on the other side of the cabin
(in case the galley extinguisher is not accessible), and two in the cockpit.
