Caught a 31" and 33" striper today, right outside the harbor, released
the larger one. It really was choppy and it got worse when I headed back
in. Got a few more bites. My fishing buddy caught a 36" striper and a
keeper blackfish.
Better than I expected.
I love blackfish... Got a bunch a few years back, what's the length
limit "today"
14" minimum.
You note I exagerated "today"as I remember coming in from the ocean
one day and the game warden was there changing the posting for the
Porgy rules (iirc) and counting the fish on the boat. He told us they
had changed the rules on the fly, mid season, and as a sportsman it
was our duty to be aware of those changes daily... ugh.. We were ok,
but he was waiting for more boats to come in...
When I was a kid and fishing in LI Sound, there probably weren't any
resource police or wardens checking the catches of amateur fishermen. I
don't recall ever seeing any. Porgies usually were the catch of the
day. Good eating. We used small pieces of sandworms as bait.
