A discussion group site listed rec.boats as a place to talk about boats.

Doesn't seem to be a lot of that here or is the season over for everyone?

Pretty much, but with the economy, even the most prolific boaters spent
little time on the water this year. I will not name names but if you
stick around for a day or so you will see probably 50 unanswered attack
posts from basically three posters and one brave spoofer who is trying
to keep them occupied so the rest can have civil conversation. Just
filter the first 4 posters to throw wild accusations around, and you
will be just fine within about 24 hours.

Again though, we tend to talk about guitars, racin', boats, cooking,
photography to fill in the spaces between our boating outings. Think of
it more like a dockside bar and grill, choose the clique you want to be
associated with and join in. If you get by the bull**** there are some
veeeeeeery knowledgeable boaters here, some active, some, uh, "retired"
as it were... but still knowledgeable..

In your honor I will replace my usually abrasive, politically charged
sig file, for one of my kids race team sigs Now it's up to you to make
a boating post, we are eagerly waiting...

OIC.

The season will end soon for me. I boat in Long Island Sound. It is in
the middle 50's today, but there is a brisk breeze and when I took a
look from Shore Drive saw whitecaps outside Branford Harbor at the R34
Cow& Calf buoy, which was about as far out as I could see with my
little binocs.- Hide quoted text -

Well, a lot of us are in the same boat. I am about 60 miles north of
you just outside Hartford right now and I have a place in Essex too. I
built boats for about 15 years and sold them from my home there.
(smallboats.com) Been a bit away from the boating community for the
last two years working with a young athelete in the family, kind of
ties up all of your time as you may or may not know. A less frequent
visitor who has somewhat moved away because of the bs here is Tom, who
is out in Woodstock CT, with boats here and down in SC, Dick another
in the same "boat"snicker is Dick who is right over the border in
RI. Tim posts a lot here and boats still, in fact he is still
modifying a couple of nice river boats is out in Ohio. Wayne just did
a great trip to the islands on his er, oh God, I am having a mental
block, big sweet boat, sending constant updates and providing a site
so we could follow him by GPS. Greg in Fla does a bunch of boating in
the winter, and there are posters in Cal and other states...

However, as you have noticed, there is a lot of noise and I will tell
you right now, I am not innocent by any stretch. Let me reiterate, I
am known to lash out pretty hard when attacked, and there are folks
here who probaly have or should have me filtered too It's up to you
what you take from this group. Some come for attention, some come to
flex their internet balls, and some even come just to fight with
them And then there are a few and hopefully one more with you who
come because over the years some of us have gotten to know each other
pretty well and we like to chit chat, go fishin', give advice, tell
jokes, let off steam and even have serious debate over politically
charged issues without name calling, etc... You can filter those who
are only destructive, or you can ignore them.. You can also address
them if you wish but trust me, you are not going to change them.

A good place to start is what boat do you have? What do you do with
it? Do you have stories and pics? On the other hand, if your kid just
won the state championship, or even came in last with a good effort,
or you just found that 1961 VW Microbus you have been looking for
since you loand that girl your first one in 74, bring it on...

Tosk, aka Scotty from SmallBoats.com

I have two boats at the present time. My favorite is a Century Resorter
from the 1960's, nicely restored, that we keep at a friend's boathouse
up on Lake Zoar. It's on a lift and we use it carefully to toot around
the lake.

The other boat is much newer and I use it for fishing and cruising
around LI Sound.
