If it is a Chev, the right or left hand rotation was determined by either
timing chain or timing gear. (I can't remember which hand was which, however
the end result was the cams were identical.. ) The 283s that Chris Craft
used had forged crank shafts..

I had twin Chev 283s in my '59 Chris Craft.
