Three stabbings, no one dead. Too bad they didn't have a guns, eh?
Three men were stabbed just before 8 p.m. Wednesday near Seattle's
Victor Steinbrueck Park, according to police. A short while later,
police arrested three possible suspects in the attack.
All three suspects had previous criminal records and were on active
Department of Corrections Supervision, according to Jeff Kappel,
Seattle Police spokesman.
One of the stabbing victims appeared to have life-threatening
injuries, Kappel said. The conditions of the other two were unknown
Wednesday night.
All three stabbing victims - two 20-year-olds and a 19-year-old
- were
taken to Harborview Medical Center, according to Helen
Fitzpatrick, a
spokeswoman for the Seattle Fire Department.
According to Kappel, at 7:47 p.m., police received a 911 call
saying
people had been stabbed at Western Avenue and Virginia Street.
There
were no suspects at the scene, he said.
Officers later found three men at the corner of Pine Street and
Eighth
Avenue near the Paramount Theatre who were possible suspects,
Kappel
said
One suspect, a 35-year-old man, had cut marks and injuries and was
taken to Harborview, Kappel said. The other suspects were a
35-year-old man and a 44-year-old man. Police recovered a knife
and a
screwdriver from the suspects.
All three will be booked into the King County Jail for
investigation
of assault or Department of Corrections violations, Kappel said.
Should knives be outlawed? What about rocks? you can cause some
serious damage with a rock!
You are much more likely to survive an attack via gun vs. an
attack via knife. There may not be as many attacks, but a lot more
serious damage is done with a large cutting implement.
This makes some sense, but I'd like to see some statistics. The
problem is the severity of gun attacks.. not too many mass killings
with knives. With a knife, it's up close and personal. With a gun,
almost any distance is possible.
...and there's always the chance you can outrun a whacko with a
knife...not so much for a bullet.
Not if you're a ninja.... duhh... lol
Actually, I heard that the best way to not get shot is to immediately
run away. Most people are lousy shots.
I think you've got something there.
Last night I was watching one of those Disorderly Conduct/Cops shows
where a pulled over driver attacked a cop. The cop and his partner
emptied their guns as the bad guy fled...
not one bullet out of at least a dozen hit the guy........ and this is
by trained police officers.
I took a defense class a long time ago, and that's what they said... run
like hell and hope for the best. Don't ever get in the car, struggle and
run, while screaming at the top of your lungs.
Many cops do not practice frequently enough with their firearms to
become good shots. Many might be reasonably accurate at one foot to
maybe 10 feet, but beyond that...they're not likely to hit a moving target.
One of the ranges I frequent has a lot of cops practicing there, but not
long enough or frequently enough to develop serious proficiency, and
they mostly roll the paper targets out to the two yard to seven yard
markers. I've only seen one or two shooting paper targets at 25 yards,
which is the distance at which I shoot pistols at paper targets, empty
soda bottles, empty beer cans, et cetera.
Oh...and the cops are moving up to .40 S&W, which is a bit humorous,
because most of them can't handle a 9 mm with much accuracy.
May not be relevant, though, if all you encounter is a slug like Scott
Ingersoll. You just have to push him down the stairs and give a good tug
on his ponytail as he slips by... :)
Spoofer alert! I'd never claim to be a better shot than almost everyone.
Oh, wait, never mind. I'm the best at everything.
