In this case it IS government health care (Medicare)

ever hear of blue cross? aetna? kaiser? they're not medicare

The 60 minutes story and the end of life problem in general, is a
Medicare problem.

no question about it. in fact 25% of medicare is used by the 5% of
patients in their last year of life

the healthcare bill had a provision to help look at addressing this
ratioanlly. as a former hospice volunteer, i saw how unprepared people
were to make these decisions

but the right wing called these 'death panels' so the provisions got
stripped out because of right wing lies.

The deregulation that allowed this happened in the 90s.

and the 80's under reagan with his 'smaller govt' fundamentalism

The reality is, there was not really the kind of deregulation that
caused these problems until the 90s.

the fundamentalist drum beat of milton friedman and alan greenspan
took awhile to catch on. the right wing knew it was a scheme to enrich
the already rich, but they didn't care
