Am back from Wyoming. They had a huge amount of snow and spring
rainfall so all the reservoirs are really full. In fact they have had
extensive flooding. We went to see the Pathfinder dam which was built
in 1910 and is 210' high where water was pouring over the spillway and
looked and sounded just like Niagara Falls. It falls into a very
narrow gorge causing a huge wave that rises half way up the 210' high
walls. Very impressive. Pathfinder Reservoir is underused being
somewhat isolated but is very large. It does have a single marina
that was flooded.
Lake Alcova which is the next one downstream on the N. Platte R. is
nearer to town and is much more used with many very large boats for
such a small lake. I was told that many directional drillers nearby
make so much money that they buy big yachts they keep on the lake just
for parties. Lake Alcova does have some scenic areas where it goes up
into Fremont Canyon with vertical 250' walls.
