I'll bet you heard that a lot when you were a swabbie, chipping paint,
cleaning heads and scraping barnacles.
One of my first neighbors in Florida was a recently retired command
master chief petty officer. Master was the right descriptor...the guy
could build or fix anything, and if I remember correctly, was *the*
senior enlisted man on a nuclear carrier. Or something like that.
Anyway, he was a great guy, a credit to his service and his country,
and the best of all possible neighbors.
He was a draftee, by the way. So, obviously, despite the negative
impressions you leave here with your every post, not everyone who got
into the service via the draft was a loser like you or your buddy
herring.
BTW, what did you do in the navy, while the taxpayers were supporting
you?
Harry,
Just for the sake of accuracy, the Navy didn't draft anyone ... at least
not that I am aware of.
As I recall draftees ended up in the Army. Then again, it has been quite
a few years since I was
dealing with that stuff.
The draft ended in 1976. Your Master Chief neighbor must have had quite
a long service career to have
been drafted (assuming somehow he was) and depending on how long ago his
recent retirement started.

I got the impression from your buddy flajim that he was drafted and
went into the navy.
As for my former neighbor, he told me he was drafted and ended up in
the navy. Perhaps he got a notice and enlisted. He retired in the
early 1990's. Amazing guy. He oak-wood planked the entire interior of
his house (except the baths and kitchen), and then, after discovering
his house had a brick lip below grade, bricked his entire house and
then installed new windows. I "hired" him from time to time to handle
some homeowner tasks, which he completed with aplomb.
Sure.
Why don't you and the others believe me about everything I say? It's not
like I've ever been caught in a lie here. Oh, wait.... Never mind.
