The VAT is far from a paranoid scheme. There are a lot of people
advocating it.
It may not be paranoid, but it's definitely a scheme to raise more taxes for the
government while redistributing wealth on a large scale.
wealth has already been redistributed. check the GINI coefficient.
america is one of the least redistributionist eoncomies in the western
world and one of the greatest degrees of income inequality.
