interesting boat.

Joe

Looks like plenty of photovoltaics. Heck, close to an acre, it seems. That
alone should up the price about 500 thousand dollars worth.

Looking at the photos - the one with the man standing on deck for scale
gives a good idea of how many panels are used.

"The boat is 31 metres long and is expected to produce up to 103.4KW
of solar power, the engine needs 20KW to achieve its top speed of
around 8 knots. The goal of PlanetSolar is to navigate around the
world at an average speed of 7.5 knots. The multihull will be home to
four sailors during the round-the-world attempt expected to take place
in 2011, and can accommodate up to forty people during the promotional
trips planned at each port of call. SunPower has provided the 38 000
photovoltaic cells that cover the vessel."

What ....no bold predictions?
That last one you hoot and hollered about was as bold as saying some
team might fumble in the superbowl.

Joe

If the boat has a top speed of 8 knots and they plan on navigating at
an average speed of 7.5 knots they are going to need some big paddles.

One can only assume that the additional 40 passengers will each come
equipped with a long oar.
